Most of my nieces and nephews who are old enough to have hair to cut have gotten their first haircuts at Harmony Barber Shop in Magic Kingdom. Until my oldest niece got her first haircut there in 2006, I didn’t even know it existed. It’s easy to miss, tucked away next to the Car Barn on Main Street, U.S.A.
Even if you notice the barber shop sign, you might assume it’s fake, just there to add to the small-town atmosphere. If you look inside, however, you’ll see it’s a real working Victorian-looking barber shop.
While haircuts probably aren’t the first thing you associate with a Disney vacation, getting your child’s first haircut in Walt Disney World is a memorable experience. The barbers are great with the kids, using an abundant supply of Mickey Mouse stickers to distract them. A first haircut is $18 and includes a certificate and “First Haircut” Mickey ears.
In addition to first haircuts, Harmony Barber Shop also does haircuts for kids ($15), which includes a sprinkling of pixie dust. Kids can also get fancy hairstyles with colored gel for $5. Adult haircuts (yes, there are adults who get their hair cut there) are $19, and beard and mustache trims are $10.
Harmony Barber Shop is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. You can make an appointment by calling (407) WDISNEY. You might want to consider scheduling around the time of the afternoon parade, as we’ve found it’s a pretty great location for parade viewing.
